The Door Supervisor top-up course is a requirement for renewing your SIA Door Supervisor licence. It guarantees the renewal of your licence and validity for another 3 years.

The Door Supervisor Top-Up course is a requirement for renewing your SIA Door Supervisor licence. If your licence has already expired, you will need to take the regular Door Supervisor course. You can take your Top-Up course if your licence is within 3 months of expiring (giving time for your results and application for a new licence to be completed.)

You will also need to complete Action Counters Terrorism e-learning prior to showing up for your course. You will need to provide proof of your ACT awareness and ACT security certificates from your ACT course to be able to take your Top-Up.

You will need to prove that you have an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate or a general First Aid certificate with at least a year left until it’s expiration date. If you do not have one, you will need to take our Emergency First Aid at Work course, which will take place on the first day of your course. Once you pass, you will be able to start your Door Supervisor Top Up course.

The units that will be covered in the course are:

Unit 1: Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry

  • Understand terror threats and the role of the security operative in the event of a threat
  • Identify the different threat levels
  • Recognise the common terror attack methods
  • Recognise the actions to take in the event of a terror threat
  • Identify the procedures for dealing with suspicious items
  • Identify behaviours that could indicate suspicious activity
  • Identify how to respond to suspicious behaviour

Unit 2: Principals of Using Equipment for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Sector

  • Know how to use equipment relevant to a door supervisor
  • Recognise equipment used to manage venue capacity
  • Recognise the different types of personal protective equipment relevant to the role of a door supervisor
  • State the purpose of using body-worn cameras (BWC)
  • Identify how to communicate effectively using relevant equipment
  • Demonstrate effective use of communication devices
  • Know what actions to take in relation to global (or critical) incidents
  • Know government guidance in relation to global (or critical) incidents

Unit 3: Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry

  • Understand physical interventions and the implications of their use
  • Understand the risks associated with using physical intervention
  • Understand how to reduce the risks associated with physical intervention
  • Be able to use physical skills to protect yourself and others

You will complete three multiple choice exams and two practical assessments to pass this course. All course material and exam fees are included in the price of this course.

What Next?:

Upon finishing your course and passing, your licence will be renewed and become valid for another for 3 years. Your renewed licence will cost £190.00. The SIA will typically get back to you within 25 working days to issue you your renewed licence once you provide them with proof that you have taken your Top-Up course and passed.
